Our objectives
What does 'quality of teaching and learning' actually mean?
For us, quality means the successful combination of interrelated factors that contribute to achieving the goals of studying and teaching at OVGU.
In the field of teaching and learning, quality is therefore a multidimensional concept that can only be developed “with reference to all groups of actors involved in teaching, to institutional framework conditions and to state funding and control strategies”.
Ok, sure! But what then is quality assurance and quality development at OVGU?
Quality is context-dependent. And contexts can change! Whether it's study reform or paradigm shifts in university management, whether it's the postulate for more educational equity or greater social commitment: in their contexts of action, members of the university are less in routine situations than in situations of change, uncertainty and time pressure, characterized by conflicts of norms and constraints on action.
In order to consistently maintain and further develop quality in these contexts, we must constantly review the status quo!
We see it as our duty to provide the various stakeholder groups - faculty management, teaching staff, students and employees - with the best possible support in their tasks and to contribute to effective and efficient processes.
Our activities are also aimed at maintaining the freedom of action and autonomy of the university as a whole.
And what exactly does that mean? How do we want to do that?
Our model controls all quality-relevant processes in studies and teaching. Using a dialogue-oriented approach, we seek to support and improve the development of study programmes and course organization in a target group-oriented and event-driven manner.
Together with you, we examine the factors and processes that affect the achievement of objectives in studies and teaching, clarify standards for these, define tasks and projects, accompany their implementation and ensure compliance with legal and educational policy requirements.
OVGU already has various measures in place to ensure and improve the quality of studies and teaching. These components of quality assurance have become established in recent years and have been transferred into a process- and dialog-oriented quality development model. This has laid the foundation for a quality culture at OVGU.
Further information on the concept of quality development at OVGU can be found here!
Universities are in a constant process of change and are confronted with constantly growing economic, social and political expectations.
Do these developments awaken your creative drive and your own initiative?
Do you want to preserve what already exists and at the same time develop, establish and consolidate something new?
If so, we would be happy to use your creative drive in the process of change
and quality development, because it is crucial for the future of OVGU!
You yourself shape change and transformation, filling 'quality in teaching and learning' with life!
We support you in developing and implementing measures and initiatives to improve the quality of studying and teaching at OVGU.
Shape
- Transitions from school to university, from Bachelor's to Master's, from degree to doctorate, from theory to practice, from career to university.
- Study programs.
- Fields of activity in research and teaching.
Do you have an idea for improving teaching and learning? Then we would like to welcome you to our BesserMachen portal!

Every day - even before Bologna - 'quality was produced' at OVGU:
socially critical, committed, competent and successful academics.
This must be preserved and the success factors secured!
And here again, you are the experts:
How satisfied are you with your studies, your teaching? How efficient are our processes?
What do we need to change in order to maintain the value of studying and teaching at OVGU?
Or can everything stay as it is? We would be happy to enter into a dialog with you.
At OVGU, the quality of studies and teaching is regularly assessed to check whether we are achieving the goals we have set ourselves. Whether it is event feedback, course surveys, graduate studies or accreditation: constantly reviewing quality not only ensures our ability to act, but is also a decisive criterion for the regional, national and international success of our university.
With a process- and dialog-oriented, evidence-based model of quality development, we combine the phase of quality determination with the phase of quality development and evaluation.
It is important to us that the evaluation model is standardized where possible, but also contextually assesses and reflects on the degree of target achievement, creates the basis for an error-tolerant quality discourse and provides impetus for further development.
Detailed information on the approach of the quality development model at the OVGU and the associated evaluation concept can be found by browsing our pages.
